Is recording DVD's using the Roxio, Easy VHS to DVD Software, and putting them on PSP/iPod illegal?

We transferred home videos on VHS onto our computer for better storage, backup, and editing. Now I realize that I can use this to record anything with an A/V out three color cord. i.e. DVD Player. Im wondering if it is illegal to use this recording software, not copying software, to put some DVDs on my computer, and through that, my PSP. Not hard copies, personal use only. I do not understand the law.
Roxio does have the capability to make my recording into whatever format I want. It has settings for PSP, Ipod touch, Ipod nano, Iphone, DVD, or just computer. Each has slightly different settings. Sorry for not mentioning that. But if the program has that feature why would it be illegal?

Technically, yes it is because it is considered "copyright infringement." But then again, recording a song off the record on a cassette is also copyright infringement as well.
