Question about hip-hop dying due to the ease of recording music...?
Some one posted a great list about the '25 things that kileld hip-hop" and one of the responses was that it's WAY to easy tor record nowadays.
Now I'm a home artist but even though I like hip-hop I mainly record rock, and that is NOT easy to do. It takes the following equipment
2 Guitars (one tuned E, on open D)
1 Guitar Amp
1 Bass
Drum machine
Mic
Keyboard
Mixer
Computer w/2 usb hubs
MIDI cables
Usb cables
Logic Studio
Reason
If you slack on any of this you'll end up with a sh!!t recording.
So how easy is it to setup a decent home studio for recording Hip-Hop? Also do you agree that the fact that it might be easy is hurting Hip-Hop?
I don't, If its easy to record then more people should be putting out better stuff.
Angel - Great answer !
Red Label - If you don't see the point, just move on, I was looking for responses for artists anyway.
It makes the "process of recording" easier -- you can record at home if you have the right equipment, rather than booking a studio and hiring studio musicians. (Sound quality notwithstanding!)
Now, the "process of writing" -- that has more to do with talent than what gear you own.
So to answer your question, I think the easier it is to record, the more music gets produced, and there will be more competition, which will make good music to stand out more.
That's my theory, at least.
(BTW as a recording engineer, I can tell you that working on hip hop sessions is super boring... No mics to set up, except for vocals!)
