whats the difference between a sound card and an midi/audio interface?
I have a laptop and want to record music onto it but am not sure if I have to buy a soundcard first and then buy an audio/midi interface? I know my laptop has an inbuilt sound card but im not sure what this means.
Can I just buy a usb interface like this one:

and use it for recording on software like Acid Pro 6?

A sound card is the device in a computer that is used to process all the digital information and files related to sound and to send it to the speakers and/or headphone jack. If all you want to do is download music onto your laptop and listen to it, since you already have a sound card you don't need another card or add-on -- just use the speakers on your laptop or plug in a set of headphones to listen to music. Windows Media Player will play just about every type of audio file under the sun, so make that your default player and all you have to do is double-click any song file you download -- the computer will start playing it for you automatically. The only time you would need an audio/MIDI interface is if you wanted to use your computer to "control" a MIDI device such as a digital drum machine, synthesizer (keyboard-type or rack-mount), digital guitar controller, etc.
