How does voice recognition work?

I just downloaded an updated version of my Olympus DS-2300 recorder/transcription software on my new computer and I notice they offer "voice recognition" for an extra $10. I type multiple meetings from this recorder. Does voice recognition mean that it will transcribe verbatim what is being said? (There are two meetings -- out of about 20 I transcribe -- in which I wouldn't mind utilizing this feature.)
There are many people talking at these meetings, so will it still work with that many people talking?

with voice recog software, the computer has to be used to the persons voice. Also, you need to speak clearly and slowly. It wont really work otherwise, because it will just dictate it as 'noise'.

So yes, it could work. If you have a whole meeting of people, it might not work so well since it will be unfamiliar with other people's voices, adn the way they speak. Also, using the commands could get confusing, and might require you to "pause" in between command words. i.e. if you are normally talking, and say backspace, it will write the word backspace. If you are normally talking, pause, then say backspace, then pause again, then continue talking, it might backspace a character.

I just got the Dragon Naturally Speaking program earlier today and I was trying to figure it out.
