Red Light Camera and Blinking Red Traffic Signal?
We have a red-light camera on one of the roads that I travel and today, it was blinking red because construction workers were working on the road. In this case, we're supposed treat the intersection as a stop sign. I stopped, let traffic go through, and started even though the light was still blinking.
Will I get a ticket? I didn't see any flash, but I don't think the flash always goes off at this intersection.
I've heard that you have to be going over 15mph to trigger it, anyway.
Tickets here are something like $370 and they count on your record.
It's all computerized. With the light in that blinking mode, the camera should be shut off. That's usually how it works. If you do get a ticket, go to court and explain to the judge. Make sure to write down the date and time so you can have that available, if needed. It would be a short job for them to verify the construction and they can check the status of the camera via the computer link. I would not expect a ticket, but it's better to be prepared.
